NHS Treatment
We offer both NHS and private treatment at Temple Street Dental Practice. We believe that all patients should be offered a full choice of the treatments available and given enough information to make an informed choice. NHS patients will be offered any necessary treatment on the NHS but may wish to choose private options if, for instance, they would like an optimum cosmetic result from their treatment.
For further information on NHS fees and exemptions see: www.dh.gov.uk/dentistry and www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk
A full range of NHS treatment is available at Temple Street Dental Practice (except Orthodontics).
The charge you pay depends on the treatment you need to keep your mouth, gums and teeth healthy. There is a fixed fee for each NHS course of treatment – either Band 1, Band 2 or Band 3 (see below).
Can you receive FREE treatment?
NHS treatment will be free if you are in one of the following groups who are automatically exempt from NHS charges:
- 17 years of age, or younger.
- Age 18 AND in full-time education.
- Named on a current NHS exemption certificate (HC2).
- Receiver of Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or Pension Credit Guarantee credit.
- Pregnant, or have had a child in the past 12 months.
- Named on an NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate.
You must bring proof of your exemption with you to your first appointment.
Applying for Free Treatment
Students over the age of 18, or anyone on a low income, may apply for an HC2 exemption certificate in order to receive free treatment.
You should fill in and send away form HC1 (available from your dental practice or by calling 0845 850 1166). If eligible, you will be sent a certificate within about four weeks. The certificate will last for up to one year and you will have to renew it when it expires.
Paying for treatment
The NHS cost for examination, emergency and diagnostic treatment is £25.80. You will be asked to pay this amount at reception straight after your appointment.
If treatment is planned you will be asked to book a subsequent appointment. We will ask for full payment of the NHS fee for the planned course of treatment prior to booking your further appointment(s).

- Band 3: £306.80
